3 Tips First Home Buyers Should Wisely Consider

First Time Home BuyersBeing a first home buyer is an exciting experience. You are investing in a property that you will make your future home. This purchase will come with a possible lifetime of memories that you may even pass down to your loved ones. That said, being a first home buyer can also be incredibly overwhelming. You are forced to make big decisions that you’ll have to live with for the foreseeable future. In order to ease the stress of being a first home buyer, I have compiled a list of tips you should wisely consider.

Make a List and Check It Twice

There’s a lot to consider when browsing for a new home, especially if it’s your first home. You will want to make sure the neighborhood is safe. You’ll want to know if you can afford the amount of property taxes you’ll have to pay annually. That doesn’t even include the aesthetics of the house. Create a list of things you do and don’t want to have in your potential home.

Think about:

  • How many bedrooms do you need?
  • Do you prefer wood floors, carpet or tile?
  • How many bathrooms will be sufficient?
  • Do you prefer a single story ranch or a multilevel home?
  • Do you want a garage?
  • What type of appliances do you prefer?

All of these questions will help you envision your ideal home. Remember to be practical. A list will also save you on time so you don’t waste yours seeing a home that you wouldn’t consider.

Go Over Your Contract

Most people won’t ever buy something as expensive as a home in their lifetime. You shouldn’t skim over your contract. If you are confused about any terms or conditions, be sure to get them explained by a professional. This will help you understand in full what you are committing to financially.

Don’t Buy More Than You Can Afford

Practicality can be difficult with purchasing your first home. It’s an incredibly emotional process. You are trying to establish your life. Try to use rational judgment. You don’t want to live outside your means, especially in the possible event of economic insecurity. It’s good to be an optimist, but things can come up that will put a strain on your finances. Anything from loss of employment, to a new child or medical emergencies. Try to think about what you will be able to comfortably afford in the event of any occurrence. That way, you’ll never be in a position to miss a mortgage payment.

If you are a first time home buyer in the Encinitas area, I’d gladly help you find the home that you desire. It is a truly incredible event that I’d be honored to share with you.
