7 Encinitas Union Schools Earn California Distinguished Schools Honor

When moving to a new location, one of the most important factors to take into consideration is the quality of the school districts. For parents of school-aged children, living within a good school district can help to ensure your child will receive the best education possible. Even for people without children, living within a quality school district can  sustain demand for properties, and ensure strong prices.

The state Department of Education, who are in charge of selecting the list of California Distinguished Schools, named 35 schools from around San Diego County among the group of 424 public schools honored. Of those 35, 7 were from right here in Encinitas.

The California Distinguished Schools program began in 1985, and recognizes public schools that best represent exemplary and quality educational programs. This honor, which alternates between elementary and secondary schools each year, is given to only approximately five percent of California schools each year.

The Encinitas Union Elementary Schools to receive this honor are Capri, El Camino Creek, Flora Vista, La Costa Heights, Mission Estancia, Ocean Knoll and Olivenhein Pioneer.

In his announcement of the schools receiving the honor, State Superintendent Tom Torlakson praised the schools for the commitment and work that went into making their success possible.

“I applaud these strong, thriving schools that are making such impressive strides in preparing their students for continued success,” said Torlakson. “This award is well-deserved by these school communities for their enduring dedication to high standards, hard work, and unwavering support.”

This is great news, not only for the parents of children attending these schools in Encinitas, but for the community as a whole. A strong commitment to education is a wonderful foundation to build your life on, and should be a major selling point for new homebuyers.  For anyone considering moving to Encinitas, there has never been a better time than now.
