Encinitas is far from New York or even Chicago, but we have great pizza in Encinitas like at Manhattan Giant Pizza! Anyone would have a hard time finding an Encinitas home owner that does not have a genuine appreciation for the tastes and smells of Mexican kitchen! Being so close to the Mexican border, one would think that the abundance of Mexican restaurants in Encinitas would make most people tired of Mexican food in Encinitas. However that is simply not the case! It may very well be because Americans generally do not cook with the exotic and flavorful spices that are found in Central and South American dishes and recipes. This leaves many craving a spicy and mouth watering fix of tacos, enchiladas, tostidas, and quesadillas!

One of the best Mexican restaurants in Encinitas is El Callejon. Located on 345 South Coast Hwy 101 Suite C2, El Callejon is a restaurant in Encinitas that prides itself in creating a fun atmosphere all the while offering some great basic and even gourmet Mexican dishes! If you are looking to order off of their lunch menu, it may be worth checking out El Callejon during happy hour, which is from 3 to 6 pm from Monday through Friday. However, do not mistake El Callejon for another bar, it is a restaurant by every definition, and an exciting one to boot!

It does not matter if you are old, young, male, female, fat, or skinny. The beaches in Encinitas are a great place to hang out no matter what time of year it is! Although the winters here may seem a little chilly to us, that is only the case because we are spoiled! Next time you step outside of your Encinitas home and feel like it is too chilly for your bones, think of what it would be like to get pummeled with a blizzard on the East coast!

In fact, our year round comfortable weather is attributed to the development of our thriving surf culture that is a significant part of the Southern California identity! If you are unsure of what I mean by surf culture, think of straw roof top coffee shops and lounges surrounded by palm trees. If you think of the word “vibe” and what it implies, you will get a healthy sense of what Southern California is all about! And for this beach town, the Java Hut solidifies what the beach culture in Encinitas is all about.

Encinitas is a really unique coastal town. It is an amazing tourist destination and is also a great place to raise a family. There are plenty of indoor and outdoor activities to be found as well as great pubs and eateries. In fact, this blog has, over time, become a great resource for cool things to do in Encinitas that is used by many that own homes in Encinitas!

Today I wanted to write about a great location that I have overlooked in past posts. It is a really fun local watering hole with a grill that is used to cook up some really amazing food. The D Street Bar and Grill is the ultimate Encinitas pub at a great location! The food served at D Street Bar and Grill is unlike bar food you have had before. The menu at D Street Bar and Grill includes steamed clams, gourmet pizzas, as well as a great Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich! If you are looking to chow down on some wings or a burger, the D Street Bar and Grill has you covered! The location is spot on too! It is on 485 South Coast Hwy 101, just south of Encinitas Boulevard.

Italian Gelato right by my home in Encinitas!!!

I stopped by Bubby’s Gelato after driving past it probably a hundred times going to and from my home in Encinitas. I’ve heard great things and I decided it was time to give it a try. I had the Real Italian Gelato and it was excellent! A small is about $4.25 and the flavor was vibrant! Bubby’s also sells “snack sandwiches” which for $3.95 are – peanut butter and banana, three cheese, hummus and black forest ham, just to name a few. Try one of the gourmet sandwiches, such as the French Riviera (tuna, artichoke hearts, tomato, olives, red onion and oregano dressing). Other favorites include the Smoked Turkey Sandwich and Veggie Burger. The food is wonderfully designed and very scrumptious, however you cannot miss the Gelato and ice cream selection; it’s what they are known for. A single scoop of Raspberry Sorbet or Cookies & Cream is a perfect ending to your meal. It’s a small little bistro in Encinitas and very quaint, however décor is not their expertise. The cafe is located along a string of up-scale shops in downtown Encinitas. It is an ideal stop for lunch during a leisurely shopping day. Overall, I’m a fan and glad I stopped in, I have been looking for new choices at lunchtime, and now I have broadened them! If you end up visiting Bubby’s for lunch or snack, remember to leave your plastic at home. It’s CASH ONLY. I think next time I meet up with Linda, my Encinitas real estate agent, I’m going to take her to Bubby’s Gelato for lunch!

Fantastic Wine Bar in Encinitas!

I just built a home in Encinitas, and wanted to find a local wine bar to satisfy my needs. Linda had told me there were a few in the area, so I decided to try Gaffney’s Wine Bar. Unlike most winemakers’ dinners, this place allows their guests to enjoy a dinner prepared by a professional local chef and taste many different wines and won’t empty one’s wallet in the process. All wine’s are chosen to compliment food prepared by the chosen chef for the evening, definitely a wine lovers kind of place! It’s friendly staff will make you feel right at home, even if it’s your first time trying wine. They offer Gourmet snacks and high quality hand made chocolates from Chuao Chocolatiers. Donna Gaffney owns and operates this wine bar, located along the coastline in North County. Perhaps a glass of Dead Arm Shiraz or Penley Flagship Cabernet is what you have in mind? Complement your wine with an appetizer, like the pate which is served with cheese, olives and bread. The Gaffneys have provided San Diego area wine novices and aficionados alike with an impressive selection of wines from around the world in their humble wine bar location. Indoors, burgundy hued walls encourage patrons to sample a flight of reds. Outdoor seating also available, and an assortment of wines by the half glass are popular pick. I highly enjoyed myself at Gaffney’s and appreciate what my Encinitas real estate agent has to say about the wine bars and other establishments along the coast.

Great Little Restaurant by my Encinitas Home!

I just recently moved to a new home in Encinitas and don’t really know my way around yet. Linda reminded me of all the restaurants that are here in town so I did a little research on my own. I discovered La Papagayo here in Encinitas for dinner and it was fantastic!! This restaurant was a place with character, amazing food and, above all, a great atmosphere. When I first walked in, I was hit with a wonderful aroma of spectacular cuisine. I was seated in the back patio nestled up next to the beach for an amazing atmosphere. I was there on a Saturday night and there was a wonderful band playing, but they were not so intrusive that you couldn’t hold a conversation. For my appetizer I chose the calamari and was not disappointed. The texture was perfection. Not a bit rubbery. On top of excellent service my main course, New Zealand Sea Bass, was tasteful as well as presented in elegance. Around 6:30pm the place really started to pick up, but it did not ruin the ambiance. My Encinitas home was only a short walk away, but if walking is not an option, they offer adjacent parking. Everything about La Papagayo screamed sophistication and I highly enjoyed myself. I am so pleased to have found a local restaurant that provides such a variety of excellent cuisine. I will definitely return to this organization however if I need more suggestions, I’ll just call Linda – my very knowledgeable Encinitas real estate provider.

Gaffney’s Wine Bar located in the Encinitas Marketplace in Encinitas, CA, on the corner of El Camino and Encinitas Blvd Gaffney’s was voted #1 City’s Best 2007 winebar by AOL cityguide . Gaffney’s Wine Bar does maintain a convenient and unassuming locale for Encinitans. Gaffney’s Wine Bar is owned and operated by Robert and Donna Gaffney, seasoned wine connoisseurs.

They opened their doors in 1992 and have served more varieties of wines than all of the restaurants in Encinitas combined as their list changes bi-weekly. Gaffney’s is best known for premium small producers’ wines by the glass and half-glass, general wine list changes bi-weekly; different wine flights nightly, the “Eight is Enough!” policy since 1992: $8 corkage fee, and $8 discount for retail sales, and visiting winemakers and special events. You can enjoy a sampler of their featured wines or 1/2 glasses so you can try a variety of your choices.

The interior is inviting and warm and not intimidating in the least. You can visit this place without any knowledge of wines and not feel embarrassed at all. The owners are actually the servers so you get the best and most exact information on each wine. And for the wine aficionado or aficionado to be, they also hold event nights where local producers and from other regions can introduce their newest editions. Some of these nights even sell out.

They serve some of the best aged cheeses as well as salads and plates to complement your tasting adventure. This wine bar is not pretentious and is very low key and has a warm interior with great service. The owners spend a lot of time teaching you about wine and let you sample several selections until you find what you like.
