The Carlsbad Cultural Arts Office makes it a point to help people living in Carlsbad homes to enjoy their summer evenings by listening to live Jazz. Thank God Its Friday (TGIF) Jazz in the Parks concert series begins Friday June 25th and continues every Friday until August 20th. The Jazz, which varies from big band to blues based, starts at 6 pm and continues to 8 pm. All music and shows are free to attend and are an awesome way to spend a summer evening.

On a side note, many people are anticipating the fourth of July weekend and looking forward to viewing firework shows and spending an afternoon grilling. The traffic on local highways will most likely be pretty heavy during the afternoon rush hour on both Friday the 2nd and Monday July 5th. If you plan on leaving you Carlsbad home, be careful around those times and leave plenty of time for traffic.

Sea Life makes it a point to teach children about the marine life off the coast of Southern California. They even offer interactive shark feeding shows that enable children to communicate with a SCUBA diver underwater.

Sea Life has plenty of new and special events that can be found by calling them or checking their website. For example, they recently had a Dr. Seuss tribute event that was aimed at raising awareness of underwater habitats. If you feel you are up to the challenge of training for a half or even full marathon, make sure to get out of your Carlsbad house and start preparing for the Carlsbad Marathon taking place this January! Make sure to register because this is a smaller event and may sell out for participants. Due to its less crowded nature, the Carlsbad Marathon is known for outstanding personal service. There will be plenty of coordinators, volunteers, and booths fulfilling the racers’ and spectators’ needs.
Finishing a half or full marathon is an extraordinary accomplishment and requires plenty of motivation and training. There are plenty of resources available to aid you in your path to physical fitness. If you feel that you need extra direction and guidance in training for a half or full marathon, you have the option of taking part in a 26 week training program starting on July 24th.

The Carlsbad Marathon is going to be a very fun event for participants, spectators, and volunteers. If you have a Carlsbad home, make sure you visit the course! Racers will receive t-shirts, goodie bags, and unique finish medals. The Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad is open every day of the week but Monday. You may make a reservation for your family but do not need to; it is open for walk ins. It offers a variety of unique, constantly updating, and, and interactive exhibits all centered around the theme of American music since the 1890s. You will find that the time flies as you lose yourself in your imagination and thought browsing the floors of the museum.

Most kids cringe at the idea of visiting an art museum, but the Lux Art Institute in Encinitas is unlike any other. The Lux Art Institute makes it a point to make art enjoyable and fun for everyone by showcasing it in different ways. It is common to see and interact with artists currently working on masterpieces of all sorts. The art institute is free for people under the age of 21 and only costs 10 dollars for adults. It is open every Saturday but holidays, however, not on Sundays. The Lux Art Institute also offers a summer camp program for children wishing to take part in something fun and meaningul in their time away from class.
