Beautiful curb appeal makes this home feel warm and inviting. It is one of those homes where you spot it as you drive up to it and know that you have come home, not to some “house”. The back yard has such a nice patio that you can imagine sitting outside on a cool night looking up at the stars and breathing a sigh of relief, comforted and nested in your safe space. Absolutely perfect for either entertaining guests or just having some alone time.

Once inside you are amazed by the hardwood floors and the open space. You could see your keys on the counter next to the newspaper. You can see the cake made the other day, not for any other reason but “just because”. Yes… this feels like home.

At night this open living transforms itself into a place to sit back in your lazyboy, put on a little fire in the elegant fireplace and watch a movie. The way the living room turns into the quiet and subdued place is amazing because of the way the lighting in the ceiling is set. Just right.

When it’s time to go to bed, your room has a bathroom with one of those glass bowl sinks. You know you always wanted one because every time someone sees it they think it’s so unique but more importantly each time you use it you feel unique.

Catch a Flick at this Beautiful Old-Time Theater in Encinitas

It’s worth a trip to the La Paloma Theater if you have a home in Encinitas and are looking for something to do! When I attended a screening the other evening, I was immediately taken with the quaint charm and authenticity of this theatrical dowager. La Paloma is a Grand Ole Lady-she is a little thread-worn around the seams but still a beautiful sight. Perhaps somewhat long-in-the-tooth, but still there is so much history here! I was honored to be sitting in perhaps the same seat that Eddie Vedder might have graced when he came here to catch surf flicks many years ago. There is a small apartment on the top of the theater-like a small studio with a Murphy bed that folds up after use. Unfortunately the balcony has been closed off, so I assumed the best spot was the back row that runs along below the balcony. That was a good choice but it was a little breezy there and noisy from the nearby snack bar-until the curtain was drawn closed after the movie started. My experience was grand and La Paloma Theater now is the recipient of my endless goodwill! Any Encinitas real estate owner needs to go at least once to view this historical landmark! I guarantee you won’t be disappointed!

My home in Encinitas is rather close to the beauty of the ocean. One of my favorite stops is at San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve, where you can view natural wildlife featuring over 250 species of birds. Frequent sightings of blue herons, coots and terns are reported in this area. In addition, several miles of walking trails are available to adventurous visitors, which is perfect for late afternoon strolls. Because this site is undeveloped, restrooms and picnic areas are not available on the premises, however facilities may be found at the nearby park. This place has so many species of birds that you can spend hours and hours photographing them. Right now there are American white pelicans roosting and they just seem to stand around like they’re waiting for a bus! There are Canadian geese that stop off during their annual migration, and there are a few deer feeding in the evening up closer to the college. The loop trail is pretty and the nature center is informative in case you’d like to learn more about the birds and other wildlife in the park. While you’re there, take the loop trail along the edge of the lagoon. Stop, look and listen for a while, or bring a good book along with! I like the beautiful scenery and the great ocean view from the hills. Any nature lover with a home in Encinitas really needs to take a trip to San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve!

A Must See Colony for Art Lovers in Encinitas

If you love the arts and have a home in Encinitas, the 101 Artists Colony is a must visit! Known as “a jewel in the community”, the 101 Artists’ Colony was founded in 1998 and provides space for artist studios, a central space for exhibitions including their highly acclaimed “Children of Chernobyl” Art Exhibition, book signings, and a venue for musical and spoken word performances. In addition, the Colony supports Full Moon Poets, with its increasingly popular twice yearly poetry slams at the historic La Paloma Theatre, and open poetry readings that are held once a month on the full moon. The organization is run solely on volunteers and there are no paid staff members. The signature activity of the 101 Artists’ Colony is the Arts Alive banner program. 2010 marks the eleventh anniversary of the Arts Alive Banner program in Encinitas. Each artist paints an original work of art on banners that are displayed on street lights along Coast Highway 101 throughout downtown Encinitas, Leucadia, Cardiff’s Restaurant Row and the Seaside Market parking lot. It’s a wonderful event and last time I went I ran into my Encinitas real estate agent, Linda Moore, so I thought I’d share a little about the place here!

We Can Dance the Night away right by our Encinitas Home!

My husband and I have been ballroom dancing for years and when we moved to our new home in Encinitas, CA we needed to find a place to continue our craft. Talking with our Encinitas Real Estate Agent, Linda Moore, we learned that there are a few places that many people of all ages go to perfect their art! Formality Dance Academy was the one we picked and they have extremely knowledgeable instructors and is an incredible facility. They offer lessons in everything from ballroom, modern dance, and improv all the way to hip-hop! If you’re serious about dance then why not study with the best? This is an award-winning academy and is world-renown for their choreography and dancers, some of whom are as young as 7. They also have a non-competitive team but perform for fun and experience. Of course there are classes for those who just want to move and shake their thing. The rest of the teams, however; are serious dancers who may go on to professional careers in this omniscient youth-culture style. This is just down the street from my Encinitas home and I am ecstatic! The quality of their programs far exceeds anything else in So Cal! So go on, dance for yourself and keep on doing what you love!

Encinitas is home to a great Botanical Garden that I found

Linda Moore, my Encinitas Real Estate agent, and I were discussing my garden at my new Encinitas home the other day and we got into a conversation about Quail Botanical Gardens. It is a lovely place and a must see for anyone living in the area! It is dedicated to the conservation of rare and endangered plants from all over the globe, from Central America, Africa, Australia, the Middle East, the Mediterranean, the Himalayas, Madagascar, and more. Visitors and residents are invited to experience this spectacular collection of flora through: tours, nature walks, lectures, landscape advice and instructional programs. Quail Botanical Gardens offers more than 4,000 rare, exotic, and endangered plants on 35 landscaped acres. They have the most diverse collection of bamboo in North America; California native plants; and subtropical fruits. For children, the award-winning “Seeds of Wonder” interactive garden is the best part of the facility. They can roll down a grassy hill, explore a baby dinosaur forest, go on a lizard hunt, discover a secret garden, and enjoy themselves in a playhouse. They have an Under the Sea garden which is actually a rock garden that mimics an underwater environment. Enjoy the sounds of the cascading waterfall or the views from the overlook pavilion. Quail Botanical Gardens is only a few short miles from my home in Encinitas, and I am ecstatic about their ability to advance public awareness of plant diversity. Definitely a MUST SEE!!

Italian Gelato right by my home in Encinitas!!!

I stopped by Bubby’s Gelato after driving past it probably a hundred times going to and from my home in Encinitas. I’ve heard great things and I decided it was time to give it a try. I had the Real Italian Gelato and it was excellent! A small is about $4.25 and the flavor was vibrant! Bubby’s also sells “snack sandwiches” which for $3.95 are – peanut butter and banana, three cheese, hummus and black forest ham, just to name a few. Try one of the gourmet sandwiches, such as the French Riviera (tuna, artichoke hearts, tomato, olives, red onion and oregano dressing). Other favorites include the Smoked Turkey Sandwich and Veggie Burger. The food is wonderfully designed and very scrumptious, however you cannot miss the Gelato and ice cream selection; it’s what they are known for. A single scoop of Raspberry Sorbet or Cookies & Cream is a perfect ending to your meal. It’s a small little bistro in Encinitas and very quaint, however décor is not their expertise. The cafe is located along a string of up-scale shops in downtown Encinitas. It is an ideal stop for lunch during a leisurely shopping day. Overall, I’m a fan and glad I stopped in, I have been looking for new choices at lunchtime, and now I have broadened them! If you end up visiting Bubby’s for lunch or snack, remember to leave your plastic at home. It’s CASH ONLY. I think next time I meet up with Linda, my Encinitas real estate agent, I’m going to take her to Bubby’s Gelato for lunch!

Quaint Eco-Friendly Store! Anything Organic You Could Ever Need!

My Encinitas real estate provider, Linda Moore, told me about this lovely Eco-Friendly store and I just had to visit! Environgentle, has been serving the Encinitas community since 1991! This shop features a vast array of products with one common denominator: everything is gentle for our environment, which really concerns me these days. Environgentle is where health-conscious folks, vegetarians, green party affiliates, and organic farming’s fervent defenders flock to in order to replenish their closet, fridge, or medicine cabinet. Greeting cards are made from recycled paper, while clothing and bath linens are made of organically grown cotton. Environgentle has it all… organic soy cotton and bamboo fiber clothing, recycled canvas bags, eco-friendly body and home products, recycled tires, inner tube belts, natural pet foods, biodegradable cleaners, organically grown cotton clothes, and a slew of recycled products are just a few of the shelves occupants you can find there. This shop has become one of my favorite places to shop for soft and gentle organic products for me and my friends. Environgentle is a fantastic store and has everything you may need for green living! I’m glad that my Encinitas house only a few miles from this store. It is quickly becoming one of my favorite places to shop!!

Lovely Little Art Gallery in Encinitas!

When I was discussing the arts with Linda, my Encinitas Real Estate Agent, the other day at my new beautiful Encinitas home she helped me find, she mentioned all the galleries and festivals in Encinitas for aficionados like myself! I was so inspired to see for myself, and I came upon this quaint little gallery down the street, Leucadia Art Gallery. I decided to visit for a new frame for my Polansky Painting. This art gallery holds a wonderful collection of artwork, which is not only displayed, but also sold as well. They have a huge array of sculptures, paintings and pencil drawings by modern artists. In addition, art students have constructed brilliant imitations of masterpieces. There are impressive re-creations of Van Gogh’s ‘Sunflowers’ and Cezanne’s ‘Still Life’. Furthermore, a frame shop is attached to the gallery with a vast selection of styles-which was perfect for what I needed at the time! Their design guidance was excellent as well as their friendly customer service. In addition to my picture that I had framed on the premises, I also got some very neat mirrors that I put in the bathroom and study in my new home in Encinitas. Even without a frame I still would have stayed for hours viewing the spectacular artists! This was by far the nicest and most respectful frame shop I have used. They also have live art exhibits, just like Linda described, that I fully intend to visit. I highly recommended a visit my experience could not have been more pleasant!

Fantastic Wine Bar in Encinitas!

I just built a home in Encinitas, and wanted to find a local wine bar to satisfy my needs. Linda had told me there were a few in the area, so I decided to try Gaffney’s Wine Bar. Unlike most winemakers’ dinners, this place allows their guests to enjoy a dinner prepared by a professional local chef and taste many different wines and won’t empty one’s wallet in the process. All wine’s are chosen to compliment food prepared by the chosen chef for the evening, definitely a wine lovers kind of place! It’s friendly staff will make you feel right at home, even if it’s your first time trying wine. They offer Gourmet snacks and high quality hand made chocolates from Chuao Chocolatiers. Donna Gaffney owns and operates this wine bar, located along the coastline in North County. Perhaps a glass of Dead Arm Shiraz or Penley Flagship Cabernet is what you have in mind? Complement your wine with an appetizer, like the pate which is served with cheese, olives and bread. The Gaffneys have provided San Diego area wine novices and aficionados alike with an impressive selection of wines from around the world in their humble wine bar location. Indoors, burgundy hued walls encourage patrons to sample a flight of reds. Outdoor seating also available, and an assortment of wines by the half glass are popular pick. I highly enjoyed myself at Gaffney’s and appreciate what my Encinitas real estate agent has to say about the wine bars and other establishments along the coast.
